Customs Clearance Process for Cash on Delivery (COD) Small Packages

If a private individual residing in Hungary or another European Union country makes a purchase from a third-country online store, in many cases, they prefer to pay using cash on delivery (COD).

EU regulations allow us to perform the import customs clearance under the "Special Regulation" framework.

The online store hands over (or organizes the handover of) the package to the third-country carrier. The carrier's task is to organize the shipping process of the packages to the customer, which includes customs clearance within the European Union.

Handling cash on delivery (COD) packages requires special permits and expertise from the customs broker, in which the members of HEXA-TEAM can provide efficient and fast services. In 2021, based on European Union directives, the Hungarian Customs Authority established an electronic platform for the mass customs clearance of packages, which we use on a daily basis.

During customs clearance, the Customs Authority conducts physical inspections, for which the collaborator must select and present the packages designated for examination. As part of our complex development, our company has built a Package Processing Center capable of sorting 3,000 to 5,000 units per hour, ensuring they are presented for customs clearance.

The customs and financial administrative tasks following delivery are handled by our highly experienced department.

We store undelivered goods after their return. We ensure the possibility of resale, re-export, or disposal.

Our group can handle all tasks related to customs clearance, ensuring a unified and high-level service from EU entry to customer delivery.
